Coffee is life...

I was at the Pavilion on Saturday August 6, 2022. This is the first visit since the pandemic. I had other plan for this Saturday morning but had to change it when my spouse say she is going to the Pavilion with daughter Lin and ask me whether I would want to go along. It a surprise and since I had not been to the Pavilion for some times already, I decided to follow them. At past ten in the morning daughter Lin arrived driving the Honda Accord and off we went to the Pavilion. On arrival we decided first to get something to eat at the food court. The.food court looks different since it has been redesigned with a new looks but the familiar stalls that sell foods are all still there. After that Asmah and daughter Lin decided to go shopping on their own.  I decided to go to the bookstore but found that there is not a single bookstore in the Pavilion.  What a shame!. I was rather disappointed and decided to venture on to all the other floors. After a while I went to enjoy coffee at one of the outlet on the second floor. I found the Coffee Beans outlet which was not there before the pandemic and on looking got into the cafe to order a takeaway coffee.  The waiter saw me coming  and ask what I want to order. I told her what I wanted and at the same time to sit around to enjoy the coffee. I was usher to a long table with stools for those who just want to while away the time and enjoy the  coffee. After a while the coffee came. I add sugar and stirred it. Took a sip and found it to taste good. I then while my time surfing the net. As usual times passes by fast indeed when one just do not care about time. After a while I decided to move on and explore the other floors of the mall.  I took my coffee and went up to the top floor.  After finishing my coffee and putting the paper cup in the trash bin I went into Parkson. I browse along and end with buying two shirts. Then I got a message from daughter Lin saying that they  are back at the food court. I went down and join them there. We decided to call the day off. Bought some pastry and left the mall with Lin driving. Well folks I do had a great day at the mall.

Have a nice day.

The Flags in Colonial Malaya...

In this posting I want to talk about Flags. I was born in 1939 and grew up during the Japanese occupation of Malaya from 1941 to 1945. So the first flag I saw was the Japanese flag, the white flag with the red circle in the centre. With the return of the British authority the Union Jack was again flown everywhere. With the defeat of the Japanese and the return of the British authority in Malaya the school was reopened. Except for the Japanese school all other schools was closed during the Japanese occupation. In January 1946 I start schooling. I remember my father took me to Sekolah Melayu Teruntun at Jalan Gambut in Kuantan. From the shop-house at Wall Street [now Jalan Mahkota] where we live we walk across the Padang, then follow the path across the grassland behind the Kuantan District Office to the school. The school is across the road with a few Pokok Kelapa Bali planted in front near the roadside. Kelapa Bali is what the Oil Palm is now known. It was at the school tha...
