Family retreat at Kuantan..

The 17th August 2019 was my 80th birthday and we had a small family celebration at our eldest daughter's house on that day over lunch and Birthday cake. And then over a weeks later our daughter suggested that we all go to Kuantan, my hometown to have an extended Birthday celebration. I was delighted with the idea; now I get to celebrate my eightieth birthday in my hometown where I was born and bred eighty years ago. So they planned we would leave for Kuantan on August 30, 2019 just a day before the 62th Independence day for Malaysia which is August 31, 2019. So just before noon on the Saturday August 30 my spouse and I leave for Kuantan in the Honda with our youngest daughter driving. The weather was good and we stopped at the Petronas Station before Bentong to have brunch. After a hearty brunch of Nasi Lemak we left for Kuantan and arrived just before three in the afternoon and straight away got to the Hyatt Hotel at Teluk Cempedak. The other members of the family are coming on their own and would be arriving later. So we check in and I was given a room facing the sea, the Teluk Cempedak sea and beach with sprawling golden sands. A beach that I called my own since I had been there from my childhood and later during schooling that beach became our playground  on weekends where we a group of Boys Scouts would hike and camp there over the weekends. I check in the room and went to the balcony and watch the sea bashing the shore like it always does for all the years, It does bring back memories of my past, a beautiful and adventurous past of my childhood here on this beach. Amazing indeed that I am here today as an eighty years old great grandpa. Such a wonderful feeling indeed. By evening the rest of the family had arrived except the second granddaughter with her husband would arrived late. I shared the room with our eldest grandson who is back from Seattle for the summer break. Since I did not had a proper lunch I went out to the nearest food outlet and got a bite of some sandwich. Back at the hotel I decided to take a rest before going out for a family dinner in town. Just after 6pm we went to have dinner at a Thai Petani restaurant at Jalan Gambut. It was indeed a sumptuous dinner and I believe the whole family enjoyed it. Then we head back to the hotel and call the day off. Again I went to the balcony and watch the dark sea and hear the sound of the waves bashing the shore as well smell the freshness of the salty air that comes from the sea. I tried to sleep early but as usual at a new place it just difficult to get a shuteyes. Anyway my grandson was already snoring. I slept and woke up early, so did the Tahajjud prayer at around three thirty in the morning. Unable to sleep again I just while my time on  the Internet and then performed the Suboh prayer as the sun was above to rise.

I start watching the sea again and eventually got to see the Sun rising at the horizon. As usual it was just magical and enchanting to watch the sun rises slowly. I took as many images of that gorgeous scene and sharing it here. And that day folks is the 31st of August 2019, the 62th Independence day of Malaysia.  What a day to be here at my favorite beach in my hometown of Kuantan, on such as auspicious day celebrating my 80th Birthday. Simply beautiful, a day to remembered indeed. Then went to enjoy a family breakfast at the Coffee house of the hotel below. What a beautiful day to be!

Have a nice day.

Ikan Singgang....

Ikan Singgang is  one traditional Malay dish that is simple to do. Yet it is not only delicious but nutritious as well. Its one dish that you can find in the Malay world, perhaps call by other names, nevertheless it is still Ikan Singgang. It is the creation of our ancestors where fish have always been their main protein source; sort of the wisdom of the old. A wise creation indeed and because of it we still kept enjoying it  I have always love Ikan Singgang especially when Ikan Aya [Tuna fish] is use but it always taste as good even with other fish like Tenggiri or Kerisi. When making this simple dish one herb/spice that is a must is Lengkuas [Galangal] for without it the Singgang is not complete. The above image of Ikan Singgang is made with Ikan Tenggiri. Delicious as usual. Taken with steamy white rice and Budu [Anchovies sauce] or Sambal Belacan [Shrimp sauce] it is heaven already.  I posted that image on Facebook and below are two informative comments made there by two of

The Sunrise at Teluk Cempedak...

We were in Kuantan for a short holiday. As usual I always take the time to watch the sunrise at Teluk Cempedak; a beach that I call my own. I grew up playing on that sandy beach from the age of seven years old and I felt in love with the sea. So going to that beach is a ritual that I never missed to do whenever I am in Kuantan.  Early that Saturday morning of September 3, 2016 I woke early and with my nephew driving we left for the beach at around 6.30am. According to the data I had the sun would rise at Teluk Cempedak at 7.01am that morning. When we arrived at the beach there were already others there waiting for the sun to rise. I had brought my latest camera the Canon EOS M10 with me. It is a Mirrorless camera, the new new generation of the DSLR. It is much smaller than the DSLR and have interchangeable lens. As soon as I got there I walk along the beach and enjoy the freshness of the morning air. Yonder at the horizon I could see some light as the the sun makes it
