The Cock crows...

When I was growing up in the forties, we did not have such a thing as a watch for each one to wear, let alone for us the kids. I woke up from my sleep in the early morning when I hear the crowing of the cocks. It was a melody that we hear each morning. It vibrates all over the atmosphere of the kampong. Then it faded away perhaps to take a rest after the job is done every morning without failed. With sleepy eyes I walk to the well nearby to bathe. There are other adult from across the road already taking their bath there. 0ur well have clear water whereas the one at Tok Yek's house across the road, the water is colored but clean. So folks prefer to take their bath at our well. Tok Yek the Dukun does not use our well. He preferred his own well. He had constructed a drum filter he had created and use it to clear the brownish water. Tok Yek is a wise man who works at the Senatory board, most of works is keeping the Monsoon drain clean. In his spare time with the knowledge

The Garage...

This is my garage, empty. The car, my Honda accord taken for a regular servicing. I love this 2000cc car that I bought in 2005. It hardly used and now just cross the 100 thousands kilometres. I now drive it around the neighbourhood to do some errands.  Car have always been an extentions of myself. But at this age (83 years,) I just cannot drive into the city, so I keep it to just continue my passion of driving. That's better than not driving at all. Back to the story of my garage, wherever we had gathering I would parked the car outside and us it as an added space; I would put a Sarawak Tikar there and on it placed two ikea's tables and four chairs for each table. Voila! the two tables could allow eight guests to sit comfortably to enjoy their meals. Thus that space becomes productive. When one live in or nearby the city every available spaces became useful. That's folks is the way to live in the 21st century.   Have  a nice day.

After PRU15...

After PRU15 (Malaysia General Election, the 15th) my life changed. Enough of politics I turned to Netflix and more reading; at time four books a time. I stop only to do the laundry, get grocery, had meals to sustain my energy and of course enjoying the Roti Canai and Teh tarik at my favourite stall nearby, where occasionally I get to meet friends to exchange notes and enjoy a chat as well. On WhatsApp to chat with friend, as well look at the family's Idrus clan activities to update of the family's happening.  Of course I do the daily choir, helping my dear wife at the kitchen.  So far life have been good, other than it kept me sane. Ha ha!

Beautiful memories...

December is a wet season on the east coast of Malaya. Although it always rains I still love this time of the year. It the time of the year when the weather is cold and we get to wear the sweater. A rather rare scene in a tropical country where the weather is always hot and humid. A bachelor I live at the government quarter near the Kuantan river and work a short distance away at the government office, a huge wooden complex at Jalan Gambut. During this Monsoon period which stretch till the end of January I would carry an umbrella and a raincoat to work. Today in the evening I walk along the road towards the Metropol cinema to go and watch a movie. I am alone. For this period of the month the weather in the evening was considered as good,  only a slight drizzle. On the way I saw an old man pushing a bicycle instead of riding it. Perhaps he has a reason, anyway I just walk and looks at him, thinking he is probably a relative that I seldom see. He did not look at me and kept pu

Cashless Payment...

That day while shopping at the Food fair at the GE mall I was introduced to the world of Cashless Payment. I had wanted to purchase an item and the stall selling the item could not accept Cards. Would only accept Cash or Cashless Payment. Here is where my grandson came to the rescue so as to get the purchase done. He used his phone to transact the payment by using the QR code at the stall. Done.(I later reimbursed him with that payment.) Getting home he got me introduced to the Cashless payment system by downloading the Payment App (the QR code) to my phone. Now I am able to purchase Cashless. Ha ha! A grandparents of the 21st century! Have a nice day.

Merdeka day 31.7.1957

This is a traditional dance group of Telecom Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, a contribution in celebrating the Merdeka day on 31.8.1957. Asmah who later became my wife is in the center front in this group photo. She was then just 17 years old. On the same day in Kuantan I participated in the Merdeka day ceremony. the raising of the Malayan flag and the lowering of the Union Jack. At that time I  did know her as yet. I was 18 years old then. Amazing a Sychronicity. Alhamdulillah.  Have a nice day.

83rd Birthday.

Alhamdulillah. Today 17.8.2022 is my 83rd Birthday. I was born during the colonial era on the 17.8.1939. Coffee is life...

I was at the Pavilion on Saturday August 6, 2022. This is the first visit since the pandemic. I had other plan for this Saturday morning but had to change it when my spouse say she is going to the Pavilion with daughter Lin and ask me whether I would want to go along. It a surprise and since I had not been to the Pavilion for some times already, I decided to follow them. At past ten in the morning daughter Lin arrived driving the Honda Accord and off we went to the Pavilion. On arrival we decided first to get something to eat at the food court. The.food court looks different since it has been redesigned with a new looks but the familiar stalls that sell foods are all still there. After that Asmah and daughter Lin decided to go shopping on their own.  I decided to go to the bookstore but found that there is not a single bookstore in the Pavilion.  What a shame!. I was rather disappointed and decided to venture on to all the other floors. After a while I went to enjoy coffee

Spirituality...

Human is a spiritual being thus science can never solved her problems.  Only spirituality could. Human should continue to evolved without the interference of science. Every aspects of Spirituality should be studied so new institutions be set up to study it further just like the west have done in pursuing science. We should remember that Human is a being with soul and not robot with AI. For Thousands of years Human has evolved without the interference of science. Through spirituality human could tamed nature like sound, water, etc. and used it at their commands and use it for their own advantages. Before the arrival of the western influences our ancestors use spirituality to cure and heal the sick. Raised heavy object. Meditation to acquire knowledge and travel long distances, like going into astral travelling. The practice Silat and the use of weapons like Kris, Santau when at war. To me there is more to spirituality than just believing in faith.  Since science creates more problems th

Majlis Bertandang...

In the Malay culture the wedding is done by the woman side. It starts of with the Akad Nikah ( Solomised of the marriage ) In this case it was a marriage between our third grandchildren Anwar and the bride Aqidah on the 11th March 2022,  follow with a reception on thr 12th. Then the next week on the 19th our daughter and her husband, the bridegroom parents organise another ceremony to celebrate their son wedding, where they get to invite their relatives and friends for the special occasion.  It was done at the Banquet Hall of the Felda Tower in town. It was an elaborate reception full of colour which includes the pomp and splendour of the Malay culture. It was indeed a night to be remembered.  As the grandparents we were delighted to get to meet most of our relatives in one go. It is at an occasion like this that we can continue to promote as well preserve out traditional arts in all its glory. A tradition that would outlasted us all. About is an image of the wedding ceremo

Teluk Cempedak beach...

I call this beach my beach. We a group of Boy Scout found it during one of our expedition in the mid fifties. At that time it was still a jungle with many  small wild animals and inaccessible. There were some tracks here and there, so we just follow it and to our surprise we were welcome by the sound of waves and the open sea. It was such a majestic scene before our eyes. We decided to camp there and enjoy the sea breezes. The next morning we saw for the first time the rising sun there as seen above [photo taken recently]. Nostalgic indeed. Have a nice day.

The Idrus Clan...

If one want to know about the culture of a race one must look at their traditions, the fine arts, the language  as well as their norms and value. From what we noticed of the Malay families of the people that live in the Nusantara, one would realise these peoples of many ethnicities have great traditions on all aspects, which shows they have a refined culture. One example is how our eldest daughter Ojie, a teacher for thirty years (she a prof retired last year at the age of 58 from UKM (Malaysia National University) portray in her water colour painting of the family tree (image above) on the Idrus Clan. In the fine culture of the Malay, we have  vocabularies to tell the who and who or  everyone of the family members. Such a colourful way kan!  Have a nice day.

Our 60th Anniversary...

The 3rd February 2022 is our 60th Anniversary.  We got married on the 3rd February 1962. It all begin when a friend's Mokhtar who works at the Cold storage store that is almost opposite the Kuantan Telecom exchange where most girls working at the exchange would go there  to buy things. They all eventually get to know the young man Mokhtar maning the store. So Mokhtar in a way knew them all. One fine evening in November 1961 Mokhtar suggests that we go and visit one of the girl who share housing at the Transit quarters nearby. I had a scooter at that time and together we went to the house. It was at this house that I was introduced to Asmah. At that time I thought meeting her was just like knowing another girl during my bachelor days. But destiny soon took us to another level of friendships, as we move along in life. One thing let to another and in less than three months after our first  meeting, on the 3rd of February 1962 we got  married at her brother in law's hou

Synchronicity.

BTW Sychronicity is Tawafuq in Islam.  The happening was yesterday 5.2.2022. I met a person that  I had not met since fifteen years ago. On WhatsApp later I wrote this to her. "Amazing indeed that today January 5, 2022 we meet again after fifteen years. It was on November 8, 2007 that we met at the Coffee club at Kinokuniya, KLCC. That scene is still vivid in my mind; two strangers, one a young students of journalism from a local University and me a retired government officer from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, then a Blogger. I blog here on that meeting on ..  The meeting on 8.11.2007  In this meeting she was gathering information on the role of blog in the new media, for her study on journalism. I tried to help her with whatever knowledge I have on the role of Blogger in this new era of information sharing.  By the grace of God today's meeting of just a few minutes became an important dot in both the life of this gorgeous woman whose name is Grace, a
