Of Fish...

I grew up in Kuantan a coastal town on the east coast thus our diet is always never without fish. We get fresh fish daily since the fisherman would go to sea every day except during the monsoon period at the end of the year. Even that since it is their livelihood they still would go to sea to catch fish but the catch would be limited thus the price would be high. Normally they would go early in the morning and come back in the afternoon. This practice is still going on till these days. Their catch are brought to the jetty near the town and most are sold outright there. Individual get to enjoy fresh fish just caught whereas most are sold the next morning at the local fish market. Now with the Smartphone one get to communicate with amateur fisherman who go fishing as a hobby and trade with them on the phone. With the advance of the Smartphone one could even see the catch on their phone and decide on price so when the catch arrived at the shore one just made payment and pick up the fish. It is as easy as that. With the traveling time by car from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur is the most three hours I often get my supply of fish there. Once a month a relative would bring it for us and with that we always get to enjoy fresh fish. Above is a cut of Tenggiri [Mackerel] that is fried for dinner tonight, a favorite of the family.

Have a nice day.

Ikan Singgang....

Ikan Singgang is  one traditional Malay dish that is simple to do. Yet it is not only delicious but nutritious as well. Its one dish that you can find in the Malay world, perhaps call by other names, nevertheless it is still Ikan Singgang. It is the creation of our ancestors where fish have always been their main protein source; sort of the wisdom of the old. A wise creation indeed and because of it we still kept enjoying it  I have always love Ikan Singgang especially when Ikan Aya [Tuna fish] is use but it always taste as good even with other fish like Tenggiri or Kerisi. When making this simple dish one herb/spice that is a must is Lengkuas [Galangal] for without it the Singgang is not complete. The above image of Ikan Singgang is made with Ikan Tenggiri. Delicious as usual. Taken with steamy white rice and Budu [Anchovies sauce] or Sambal Belacan [Shrimp sauce] it is heaven already.  I posted that image on Facebook and below are two informative comments made there by two of

The Sunrise at Teluk Cempedak...

We were in Kuantan for a short holiday. As usual I always take the time to watch the sunrise at Teluk Cempedak; a beach that I call my own. I grew up playing on that sandy beach from the age of seven years old and I felt in love with the sea. So going to that beach is a ritual that I never missed to do whenever I am in Kuantan.  Early that Saturday morning of September 3, 2016 I woke early and with my nephew driving we left for the beach at around 6.30am. According to the data I had the sun would rise at Teluk Cempedak at 7.01am that morning. When we arrived at the beach there were already others there waiting for the sun to rise. I had brought my latest camera the Canon EOS M10 with me. It is a Mirrorless camera, the new new generation of the DSLR. It is much smaller than the DSLR and have interchangeable lens. As soon as I got there I walk along the beach and enjoy the freshness of the morning air. Yonder at the horizon I could see some light as the the sun makes it
