Sharing some thoughts #-1

1- I got into talking with a youth at the Petrol station this morning Saturday March 2,  2019 . He say Susah lah Pakcik harga Minyak Ron 95 macam ni. Why don't they reduced it further but charge Ron 97 higher since those who use Ron 97 are rich folks and they drive expensive cars, surely they can afford. Well it does make sense kan!

2- It quarter to 6 pm on a hot and humid Saturday afternoon. I have been sitting at the Serambi since after lunch reading and whiling the time away. It a ritual now to sit at the Serambi but then what else to do since I can no longer drives like before. If I could I would drive to Putrajaya and do some photography there. This morning I drove to Ampang Point which is just 2 kilometres away, bought some things at the Giant there then drove another two kilometres to Ampang Grosser to get drying sheets for the Dryer and detergent for the Dishwasher. This Ma and Pa market got most imported goods that one cannot get at Giant. So from time to time I replenish such items for my the Dishwasher and Dryer at this market. Oh yes before that I had the usual Roti Canai and Teh Tarik at a Mamak restaurant nearby. It getting dark now but there is no sign of rain. Well...

Have a nice day.

Ikan Singgang....

Ikan Singgang is  one traditional Malay dish that is simple to do. Yet it is not only delicious but nutritious as well. Its one dish that you can find in the Malay world, perhaps call by other names, nevertheless it is still Ikan Singgang. It is the creation of our ancestors where fish have always been their main protein source; sort of the wisdom of the old. A wise creation indeed and because of it we still kept enjoying it  I have always love Ikan Singgang especially when Ikan Aya [Tuna fish] is use but it always taste as good even with other fish like Tenggiri or Kerisi. When making this simple dish one herb/spice that is a must is Lengkuas [Galangal] for without it the Singgang is not complete. The above image of Ikan Singgang is made with Ikan Tenggiri. Delicious as usual. Taken with steamy white rice and Budu [Anchovies sauce] or Sambal Belacan [Shrimp sauce] it is heaven already.  I posted that image on Facebook and below are two informative comments made th...

The Flags in Colonial Malaya...

In this posting I want to talk about Flags. I was born in 1939 and grew up during the Japanese occupation of Malaya from 1941 to 1945. So the first flag I saw was the Japanese flag, the white flag with the red circle in the centre. With the return of the British authority the Union Jack was again flown everywhere. With the defeat of the Japanese and the return of the British authority in Malaya the school was reopened. Except for the Japanese school all other schools was closed during the Japanese occupation. In January 1946 I start schooling. I remember my father took me to Sekolah Melayu Teruntun at Jalan Gambut in Kuantan. From the shop-house at Wall Street [now Jalan Mahkota] where we live we walk across the Padang, then follow the path across the grassland behind the Kuantan District Office to the school. The school is across the road with a few Pokok Kelapa Bali planted in front near the roadside. Kelapa Bali is what the Oil Palm is now known. It was at the school tha...
