The Nasi Lemak ...

It was a cool Sunday. The heavy rains that had poured the Kelang valley for the last few weeks had brought Flash floods and at the same time kept the atmosphere cool. After a brunch of Nasi lemak with Kerang I sat down at the Serambi to enjoy my coffee and while the time away. It has been a long time not having the usual Nasi Lemak from the Mokcik stall nearby. I no long could stand on line especially on a Sunday to que to buy the delicious favourite Nasi lemak. Age has caught up and I just could not stand on line at time for 40 minutes to get to buy two bungkus of Nasi lemak, one for NekNyang and one for me. Nenek like the Biasa one with the sambal put in a separate container and mine always with Kerang and the sambal thrown in. It has been for months and Asmah had quipped yesterday 'tak beli Nasi Lemak'  since I was out to take the laundry near the stall yesterday. I just answer Tak. In actual fact I had wanted to buy but simply could not stand in line to buy. At home yesterday without telling Asmah I WhatsApp the  neighbor's adult kid to buy the Nasi lemak and as asual he obliges. Early this morning the neighbor's kids hand me the two Nasi Lemak and I hand him the money which he reluctantly accept. I put the bungkus on the kitchen's table and Asmah ask  'sapa beli' and I replied Daling (the neighbor's kid nickname is Daling) From her look Nenek was delighted, her wish for the Nasi Lemak materialises. To regress a bit, at this age, I am 81 years old and been married for 58 years, I understood her well indeed. She is 6 months younger and to me she prepare the best Nasi Lemak this side of the town but once a while she yearned for something different. So life goes on as both of us ages. The kids and the grandkids are on their own so there only two of us at this family home. So as the saying goes 'Nak suroh sapa beli'.. the story as we journey on in our golden years. Taking a day a time...  Alhamdulillah.

Have a nice day.

Lucky you to be able to enjoy the nasi lemak. I can't take the nasi lemak due to the presence of the anchovies or kerang due to my gout. I want to avoid the pain and the necessity to take pain killers incase of a gout attack. The next time you have nasi lemak, please eat a portion for me hehehehe.

Thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts on the subject of this posting. Sorry to hear that you cannot enjoy Nasi Lemak. What about just the Nasi and the sambal and not the Ikan Bilis and Kerang. Well Nasi Lemak is part of our diet, either we buy or Asmah cook it.

Have a nice day.

Syaz Rahim, thanks for the visit and sharing your thoughts. Well ye le sekali sekala hendaklah cuba yang tak payah buat sendiri. The other day influenced by the advertisement on TV Asmah ask me to buy the Mcdonald's Nasi Lemak so I went to buy it at the Drive in. Sedap juga but not as sedap as the Mokcik's one. Yes the Mokcik's Nasi Lemak is really good.

Have a nice day.

Ikan Singgang....

Ikan Singgang is  one traditional Malay dish that is simple to do. Yet it is not only delicious but nutritious as well. Its one dish that you can find in the Malay world, perhaps call by other names, nevertheless it is still Ikan Singgang. It is the creation of our ancestors where fish have always been their main protein source; sort of the wisdom of the old. A wise creation indeed and because of it we still kept enjoying it  I have always love Ikan Singgang especially when Ikan Aya [Tuna fish] is use but it always taste as good even with other fish like Tenggiri or Kerisi. When making this simple dish one herb/spice that is a must is Lengkuas [Galangal] for without it the Singgang is not complete. The above image of Ikan Singgang is made with Ikan Tenggiri. Delicious as usual. Taken with steamy white rice and Budu [Anchovies sauce] or Sambal Belacan [Shrimp sauce] it is heaven already.  I posted that image on Facebook and below are two informative comments made th...

The Sunrise at Teluk Cempedak...

We were in Kuantan for a short holiday. As usual I always take the time to watch the sunrise at Teluk Cempedak; a beach that I call my own. I grew up playing on that sandy beach from the age of seven years old and I felt in love with the sea. So going to that beach is a ritual that I never missed to do whenever I am in Kuantan.  Early that Saturday morning of September 3, 2016 I woke early and with my nephew driving we left for the beach at around 6.30am. According to the data I had the sun would rise at Teluk Cempedak at 7.01am that morning. When we arrived at the beach there were already others there waiting for the sun to rise. I had brought my latest camera the Canon EOS M10 with me. It is a Mirrorless camera, the new new generation of the DSLR. It is much smaller than the DSLR and have interchangeable lens. As soon as I got there I walk along the beach and enjoy the freshness of the morning air. Yonder at the horizon I could see some light as the the sun make...
