The Birds...

I have tried to post video from the Blogger platform on the Smartphone but was not possible because there are no interface or tools to do so. So far I could only post photos and not video. I am bogginng this post both from the cellphone and the laptop. The old interface are gone on the laptop and only a few tools are now availble to do the posting.  BTW all my recent posting are done from the cellphone. I took this video using the cellphone and had to tranfer the above image to the laptop before I gould upload it here. Anyway here it goes.

I love to see little animals like squirrel and birds in my little garden. To attract them to come and go freely I hang a bird feeder and every morning I would put foods like bread and fruits to feed on.  Normally squirrel and the Merbau birds would come to feed but this morning I was happy to see many small birds starts to patronise my little garden. As can be seen in  these video that I took this morning these little birds are seen chirping happily, perhaps enjoying the snacks including the nectar from the flowers available there. I never like to put animals in cages so I decided to create an environment that would draw these small ànimals. As they often say create a conducive environment and they would come. As can be seen indeed it works. I am delighted and hopes more birds and other small animals would made the garden their habitat as well.

Well folks, life is like that. Have a nice day.

Ikan Singgang....

Ikan Singgang is  one traditional Malay dish that is simple to do. Yet it is not only delicious but nutritious as well. Its one dish that you can find in the Malay world, perhaps call by other names, nevertheless it is still Ikan Singgang. It is the creation of our ancestors where fish have always been their main protein source; sort of the wisdom of the old. A wise creation indeed and because of it we still kept enjoying it  I have always love Ikan Singgang especially when Ikan Aya [Tuna fish] is use but it always taste as good even with other fish like Tenggiri or Kerisi. When making this simple dish one herb/spice that is a must is Lengkuas [Galangal] for without it the Singgang is not complete. The above image of Ikan Singgang is made with Ikan Tenggiri. Delicious as usual. Taken with steamy white rice and Budu [Anchovies sauce] or Sambal Belacan [Shrimp sauce] it is heaven already.  I posted that image on Facebook and below are two informative comments made th...

The Flags in Colonial Malaya...

In this posting I want to talk about Flags. I was born in 1939 and grew up during the Japanese occupation of Malaya from 1941 to 1945. So the first flag I saw was the Japanese flag, the white flag with the red circle in the centre. With the return of the British authority the Union Jack was again flown everywhere. With the defeat of the Japanese and the return of the British authority in Malaya the school was reopened. Except for the Japanese school all other schools was closed during the Japanese occupation. In January 1946 I start schooling. I remember my father took me to Sekolah Melayu Teruntun at Jalan Gambut in Kuantan. From the shop-house at Wall Street [now Jalan Mahkota] where we live we walk across the Padang, then follow the path across the grassland behind the Kuantan District Office to the school. The school is across the road with a few Pokok Kelapa Bali planted in front near the roadside. Kelapa Bali is what the Oil Palm is now known. It was at the school tha...
